STRONG STATES

It is easy for a Presidential administration to be ideological with other people’s money and lives. They can cause irreparable harm and not experience the consequence.

The war on coal is an excellent example of placing ideology above rational logic. The war on coal has devastated the United States economically. If it were not for the fortuitous development of shale fracking for natural gas, the United States would have an energy grid that more closely resembled a third-world country.

  • Energy policy is just too important to leave in so few people’s hands. It is easy to sway so few people by ideology. We must decentralize our energy development authorities (the USDOE and FERC). We need to allow natural markets to reform. These markets may not look like pre-deregulation markets, but they will have a much better chance of success.
